Sad state of Famed Indian Education System

Here is the quote from a senior scientist Madhavan Nair, ISRO Chairman

"We are not able to compete with these countries because here many
educational institutions are teaching these subjects with a commercial mind and
no attention was given on practical side of these advanced studies."

He was referring to cutting edge technologies like Nano Technology,Gene Manipulation etc.

Do we still need some more prodding to wake and up question the system?

Pizza for discount

Today i ordered a pizza over phone with pizza corner. The guy at the other end said, the pizza would cost me 149Rs. I asked him are you sure its just 149rs nothing more or nothing less. He assured me its just 149Rs.

After an hour the delivery guy , gave me the pizza and i gave me him150 (feeling like god to tip him 1Rs he he), he informed me i have pay to 201Rs . On further inquiry he said that i was all the offer stuff added and subtracted for my medium size pizza and with taxes it had gone up to 201Rs.

I told him, i ordered a pizza for 149rs and i will only pay that much. If not you can take the pizza back. Pity the delivery guy. As he was involved in the first conversation, i called them up again and asked for the same person (luckily today i remembered the persons name and my order number, yes we do have an order number).

I just asked him only one question "Did you inform me taxes will be extra?" His answer was a "no". Then i said i cant pay anything more then if you cant deliver me pizza then take it back. If you are unable to make a decision give it to your manager.

The manager apologized for the error on his employees part, but i made him very clear i wont pay for the mistake of his employees either take it back or i pay what i ordered for. Finally i got my pizza for 180 as a compromise solution.

Its not that i am against these people, Just that why don't they say it all clearly and why should i pay for their mistakes.

Bangalore - Hi Tech city with Low Tech power supply management

The energy demand/supply situation in bangalore is getting worse. Given that this is the summer peak load season, there is virtually power cuts of 3 to 4 hours per day during day time. This is been observed in residential areas like indira nagar.

The situation becomes worse on weekends. Figures the new government has a lot of work to do to keep the techies quiet in the hot summer.

Name boards in Native Script

I have seen quite a lot of people complain about the name plates in bangalore buses being in native kanada script.

when thinking about it from a socio-political angle i find that this method achieves two interesting goals

• Keeps the language alive in this silicon valley
• Forces non-natives to take auto as they don't understand which buses go where thereby forcing them to pay hefty fares to those drives and giving them livelihood.

Now , does'nt that look like a good suggestion to annoy Non Natives. Probably a pleasing idea to some mumbaikar!!!! :)

Private Banks - Telemarketeer Nexus Exposed

Recently i got a call from a tele marketer , hawking for credit cards. After the initial monotony of dialogues i dragged that person from their comfort zone and made them answer my queries regarding where and how they got my number.

Pity that person, they were giving so much of insider information which astounded me. I present some of them here.

• India's largest private sector bank sells its customer data or doens't protect confidential information like (name, mobile number, address, their Employee ID if they have corporate account) in a manner it should.

This is how i figured out the above, The tele marketer was able to give specific information which i had shared with only my banker and no one else in the world.

• Tele marketers sometimes forge proof documents like, salary slip, address proof, PAN Card Number etc. (Thanks to technology easy to create fake ones than obtain an original)
• These people(tele marketers) re-sell your mobile numbers and other information worth a penny.

So the next time you get a call from any one of these guys show them the door.
